CMS Weekly Update 10-15-2017

Hello CMS Families!

I wanted to thank everyone again who came out and supported the live art gallery event.  It is something that our students put a great deal of time, energy and effort into each year.  I also wanted to thank everyone who donated and volunteered in support of our Super Friday event and fundraiser.  It would not have been successful without all of your support.  Again, I want to recognize our community partners: Sonic, McDonalds, and Dominoes.  They all contributed in a major way to the success of our positive behavior fundraiser.  I also wanted to make everyone aware that there is a Saturday School session coming up on November 4th.  Saturday school is not mandatory nor is it for punitive purposes.  Saturday school affords students who need extra time and support a chance to receive academic assistance.  It also allows students the opportunity to complete missing assignments that are having a detrimental impact on their grades.  Teachers will work to identify students who could benefit from Saturday school and will send letters of invitation no later than October 30th.

News From Around CMS:

CMS Administration:  I wanted to clarify who needs to attend the 1 to 1 initiative meeting on Thursday evening (October 19th @6pm).  This meeting is only for the parents of 7th and 8th grade students.  For the 2017-2108 school year, only 7th and 8th grade students are receiving laptops.

From Mrs. Jarrell:   The STEM team will be competing Thursday at Sycamore High School.

From Mrs. Canterbury:  Career Day will be at Cheatham Middle School on November 15 from 8-9:45.  If you, or anyone you know of would like to give a 20-25 minute presentation to three different classes on that morning, we would appreciate you sharing your time and knowledge with us.   Please email for more details.

From Mrs. Jamie Wilson:  Please send any notes regarding attendance with your child to school.

From Mrs. Hall:    Math tutoring for students in all grade levels is Thursdays after school from 3 – 4 p.m. in room 116.  My only request is that your child know what skills and/or assignment they most need help with.  Pickup is in the front of the building.

In addition, Jr. Beta and Jr. Civitan will begin collecting new socks for our annual #socktober drive next week.  The drive will continue through the month of October.  Socks in all sizes and types, baby – adult, would be greatly appreciated.  Your family’s donation will be used to benefit those in our own community.

From Mrs. Miller:  The Yearbook Committee is looking for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders who are interested joining. Meetings will be once a month every Thursday after school until 4 p.m. Students who are on the Yearbook Committee will assist in creating the 2018 yearbook’s design and compilation. Some skills needed to join the committee include photography and basic computer knowledge. If you are interested in joining, please pick up an application from Mrs. Miller in room 110. The deadline to turn in applications are October 20th.
