About Me!

My name is Katie Pritchard. I teach 5th grade English Language Arts, and this is my forth year at Cheatham Middle School. I graduated from The University of Tennessee at Martin in 2009 with my bachelor’s degree and received my masters from Freed Hardeman University in 2014. I am originally from West Tennessee but moved to Nashville four years ago. I am married to my husband of nine years, and we have two girls, Brinley (4) and Blakely (1).

March 18-22

  • Homework is due on Friday of each week, but it can be turned in when completed. 
  • Our CIM skill of the week will be reviewing all the rules of comma usage. The CIM assessment will be Thursday instead of Friday due to Super Fun Friday events. 
  • On Monday, we will finish our TCAP review centers that we started last week. We will review answers from each center as well. 
  • The remainder of the week, we will be looking at different TCAP practice test. The students will be working through one question at a time, and then we will discuss together. This will help them practice test-taking strategies and feel better prepared for state-testing. 
  • The last AR due date for the year is on May 4th! 

March 11-15

  • Homework is due on Friday of each week, but it can be turned in when completed. 
  • Monday, we will finish the Benchmark Review powerpoint. Students were given a study guide last week to help prepare. 
  • Tuesday, we will take the Writing Benchmark on Narrative Writing. This will take place first thing in the morning, so make sure your child is here on time.  
  • We will be using any class time this week to do TCAP Review Centers. 
  • Friday morning, we will take the ELA Benchmark. 
  •  The last AR due date for the year is on May 4th! 

Book Fair 2019!

The Spring Book fair is next week, March 11-15.

Family Night will be Tuesday, March 12, 5:30-7:30. 

We will be pre-saling Diary of an Awesome Friendly Kid, by Jeff Kinney for $8.99.

March 4-8

  • Homework is due on Friday of each week, but it can be turned in when completed. 
  • Monday, we will do a final practice on Narrative Writing. They will have 45 minutes to complete the writing task. 
  • Tuesday through the rest of the week, we will be spending each day reviewing all of the standards from this past quarter to help prepare for the 3rdQuarter ELA Benchmark Test. 
  • We will be taking the ELA Benchmark Test next week on Tuesday 
  • The 3rd Quarter AR goals are due today!! The last AR due date for the year is on May 4th! 

February 25-March 1

  • Homework is due on Friday of each week, but it can be turned in when completed. 
  • ***WE WILL BE COVERING MOST OF WHAT WE WOULD HAVE LAST WEEK. Thank you for your patience. 
  • Our CIM skill this week will cover Conjunctions, Prepositions, & Interjections. Assessment will be Friday.  
  • Tuesday, we will continue to review MAIN IDEA (RI.5.2) and practice several examples. 
  • Library weekly check-out will be Tuesday. 
  • Wednesday, we will work on another narrative writing piece. 
  • We will have an assessment over MAIN IDEA on Friday, March 1st. 
  • The next AR deadline is March 4th. That’s only ONE week away! 

February 18-22

  • Homework is due on Friday of this week, but it can be turned in when completed. 
  • Our CIM skill this week will cover Conjunctions, Prepositions, & Interjections. Assessment will be Friday.  
  • Tuesday, we will finally cover MAIN IDEA (RI.5.2) that we have pushed back for 3 weeks due to weather. We will also go to the library for our weekly checkout.  
  • Wednesday, we will work on another narrative writing piece. The students did excellent last week writing about being a slave on the Underground Railroad. We will choose a few to read aloud and give feedback. 
  • We will have assessments over MAIN IDEA on Friday, February 22nd. 
  • The next AR deadline is March 4th. That’s in only two weeks!!

February 11-15

  • Homework is due on Friday of this week, but it can be turned in when completed. 
  • We will go to the library on Monday for our monthly library lesson with Mrs. Heflin. She will be teaching about reliable internet sources. 
  • On Tuesday, we will practice narrative writing by reading a passage and responding to the prompt. 
  • Tuesday, we will review determining the MAIN IDEA of a text and explain how it is supported by key details. 
  • Thursday will be used to review THEME from last week and MAIN IDEA from this week to prepare for assessments.. 
  • We will have assessments over these skills on Friday, February 15th 
  • The next AR deadline is March 4th. 

January 28-February 1

  • Homework is due on Friday of this week, but it can be turned in when completed. 
  • On Monday, we will spend most of the day in homerooms to complete our winter TLAs. This will help us determine their independent text reading level.  
  • While I am pulling students individually to TLA test, they will be taking the assessments from last week: Idioms & Proverbs and Word Meanings. 
  • Tuesday, we will practice Theme by working sample test questions from both literary and informational texts. 
  • Wednesday, we will review Main Idea by working through several types of texts and determining the main topic and details. 
  • Thursday will be used to “catch-up" or review. 
  • We will have assessments over these skills on Friday, February 1st 
  • The next AR deadline is March 4th. 

January 22-25

  • Homework is due on Friday of this week, but it can be turned in when completed. 
  • Tuesday, we will learn about Idioms & Proverbs, which are another type of figurative language. They will be able to identify each and tell the meaning of each. 
  • Wednesday, we will practice skills to help with word recognition and word knowledge. This will help them decode unknown words that they see in a text. 
  • We will have assessments over both of these skills on Friday, January 25th. 
  • The next AR deadline is March 4th.

January 14-18

  • Homework is due on Friday of this week, but it can be turned in when completed. 
  • Monday, we will be going over the 2nd Quarter ELA Benchmark test that we took before break. Students will be given their results and we will look at the most missed questions/standards together. 
  • This week, we will focus on verbs. Tuesday, we will learn about Perfect Verb Tenses (FL.6b). Wednesday, we will learn about Inappropriate Shifts in Verb Tense (FL.6d). 
  • We will have an assessment over both of these skills on Friday, January 18th. 
  • The next AR deadline is March 4th.
