CMS Weekly Update 4-22-2018

 

 

Hello CMS Families!

 

       We are having another Saturday School session on April 28th.  Letters of invitation should be going home this week.  Teachers representing ALL subject areas will be present and able to assist students.  I am still requesting that 8th grade parents send photos of their student tocmsgradpics2018@gmail.com.  Please remember that in order to ensure that all students have the opportunity to be represented, I am asking that you limit your submissions to 5 photos per student.  The deadline to submit your photos will be May the 15th.  Please remember that our Awards day is taking place on May 22nd.  The times are as follows: 

 

8:30-9:30=8th grade awards

9:35-10:35=5th grade awards

10:40-11:40=7th grade awards

11:45-12:45=6th grade awards

 

 

 

News From Around CMS: 

From Mr. Ramsey:  The Spring Band Concert will take place on Thursday, May 3rd at 6pm. 

After school rehearsal will occur on Tuesday, May 1st 3-5pm.

 

From Coach Bailey:  Basketball tryouts for any upcoming 6th, 7th, or 8th grade boy are coming up soon. TRYOUTS FOR UPCOMING 7TH AND 8TH GRADERS WILL BE MAY 21st FROM 4:30 – 6:00 AND MAY 22ND FROM 3-4:30. TRYOUTS FOR UPCOMING 6TH GRADERS WILL BE MAY 23rd FROM 4:30 – 6:00 Students are eligible to play as long as he does not turn 15 years of age prior to August 1st of their 8th grade year.  Tryouts will be a search of positive attitude, effort, and potential in each boy.  Becoming a Bearcat should be viewed as a great privilege to represent Cheatham Middle School.

 

Parents should be aware of the following:

  1. An updated physical is required for tryouts.
  2. Players will be required to purchase team shirts and other related equipment.
  3. Games and practices will be held during the week, weekends, and during holidays.
  4. Parents will be asked to help with activities throughout the year.
  5. All players will be required to participate in at least one fundraising event.
  6. All players will be required to pay a team fee of $265.

Forms are available in the front office. 

 

From Nurse Connie:  Any 6th grade students who wish to go ahead and get their 7th grade immunizations (Tdap booster & must have 2 doses of Varicella) can have their doctor fax their new shot record, which has to be on the Tennessee Department of Health form to CMS at 615-792-2337.  Letters have gone home with students who are still missing their immunizations.  If you have any questions, please call me at 615-792-2334 or email me atconnie.langley@ccstn.org. 

 

From Mrs. Taylor:  Drama Club is happy to announce our upcoming play, Lord of the Pies!

 

Genre: A One-Act Comedy/Parody of William Golding's Lord of the Flies

Brief Synopsis: A pie shop erupts into panic after Franny, a brash cat-lady, announces the arrival of the apocalypse...

Duration: Approximately 40 minutes

When: Friday, May 11th at 4:30 p.m.

Where: CMS Multipurpose Room

Tickets: $5.00 for adults and $2.00 for students

From Mrs. Miller:  Yearbooks are still on sale for $35. Supplies are SUPER limited so make sure to get your copy on time! You may still order through the school with an order form, however, the online platform is no longer available for purchase. Name plates are also no longer available. 

 

From Mrs. Heflin:  AR Deadlines: April 25 is the cutoff for students to get 100% of their goal if they wish to go on the AR field trip. In order to qualify for the field trip, students must reach 100% or more of their AR goal for BOTH grading periods this semester. 

 

May 14 is the AR deadline for grading purposes. 

The library will officially close to students for the year on Friday, May 11 with the final due date for all books being the following Monday, May 14. Students will not be allowed to check out books on that final date. They will have the weekend to finish up books and take final AR tests on the 14th. 

 

 From Coach Carter:

The winter and spring sports awards night will be May 9th at 6 pm in the multipurpose room at CMS. This includes girls and boys basketball, baseball, wrestling, softball and boys soccer.

 

Spring football practice will begin May 7th and go thru May 18th.  Forms are available from Coach Carter.  All players must have an updated physical in order to participate.

 

Girls basketball tryouts will be May 21-23. May 21-22 is for upcoming 7th and 8th graders and May 23 is for upcoming 6th graders. All players must have an updated physical and forms are available from Coach Carter.

 

Cheatham county high school will have a mandatory parent meeting on May 10 at 6 pm for all upcoming students who plan on playing a sport, band member or any club. See Coach Jeremy Boyd for details.
