West Cheatham Elementary School will celebrate its 50th anniversary on Sunday, April 8.

The milestone will be celebrated during a special event at the school from 1-4 p.m., and the community is invited to attend.

WCES memorabilia from across the decades will be on display. Favorite memories shared by former students and staff members will be part of the celebration. Refreshments will also be served.

WCES opened its doors in April 1968 with Hester Hewitt serving as the first principal.

“This important milestone gives us a chance to celebrate our founding, reflect on our success and imagine our next 50 years,” said WCES Principal Amber Raymer, who has led the school since 1999.

Raymer said much has changed over the years, but one thing has not – the school’s purpose.

“West Cheatham will always be a school that brings out the very best in every student. We want our school to be a place where children are inspired to learn and where they thrive as individuals.”

If you have a memory of WCES that you would like to share for the celebration, please e-mail it to pam.brown@ccstn.org or thorntonpamela@att.net.
